How is a colour washed to antique or dye with Magic Paint?

A resistant alternative for your high-wear restyling, perfect replacement for the usual wax coating, is colour washing, also known as washed.

It can be carried out before protecting the surface, as a dye on the raw wood using the highly diluted paint;

but it can also be used on coloured surfaces that need antiquing, which can be protected either with wax or with liquid protection in case we are finishing a very high wear restyling.

Carrying out a wash is very simple: you must first degrease the surface (not necessary if you are treating the raw wood).

– For antiquing: apply 1-2 coats of colour as usual, following the normal guidelines.

Then choose a contrasting colour to give the shades.

Take a small part and dilute it in water (from a minimum of 40% to a maximum of 80%).

It can be applied with a brush or sponge and the excess is removed with a soft damp cloth.

Warning: the more you leave the diluted colour on the base, the more difficult it will be to remove the excess.

To make this process easier, you can apply a coat of liquid protection before washing, thus preventing the paint from quickly absorbing the wash.

– TO DYE raw wood: raw wood is wood that has not been previously treated with any product or has just been sanded.

Only in this case will it be absorbent and receptive to paint.

The versatility of this technique distinguishes itself in being able to dye keeping the grain intact, any type of wood with any colour.

Our advice is to apply with a very soft magic paint brush the paint of your chosen colour diluted from a minimum of 50% up to a maximum of 150% with water.

You can also use this technique to dye substrates that will then be protected with a liquid protective paint to be subjected to high wear and tear.

You can then antique your kitchen or garden furniture.

Attention!

It is possible to apply the waxes on the liquid protective coat but it is not possible to apply the liquid protective coat on the waxes!

For this reason you will not be able to use the waxes to antique your kitchen or your high-wear restyling, but you will have to use the washing technique.

If you want to protect your wax patinas, you’ll have to apply transparent wax!

On greasy bases the paint will not perform as well as on cleaned bases or painted with water-based paints!
