How do I get an antique effect with Magic Paint waxes?

Magic Paint produces two types of waxes;

ANTIQUE AND PATINATE WITH SOLID WAXES

After sealing with liquid protective wax or WITH transparent wax, proceed with the passage of solid coloured wax.

Magic Paint solid wax has a very high pigmentation, for this reason Elisa always recommends to mix a small quantity with a tip of transparent wax.

This is to obtain a higher yield, but above all to facilitate the application and coating.

It is advisable to keep the wax in a cool and dry place.

It should always be applied with a brush and massaged or removed in excess with a soft cloth.

If you want to further protect the coloured wax, it is advisable to apply a coat of neutral wax the day after.

A small trick: the transparent wax can be used as an eraser to mitigate the ageing, but be careful, this solution can only be adopted within a few minutes after the patina has been applied.

AGE AND PATINATE WITH LIQUID WAXES

After sealing with liquid protective wax or WITH transparent wax, proceed with the passage of the liquid coloured wax.

The liquid wax enters better into the inlets of the deepest friezes which would otherwise be more difficult to reach.

However, it dries even faster, so if you want more time to spread the liquid wax you can mix it with a small percentage of transparent solid wax.

However, it is advisable to use a brush and a cloth to remove the excess and to carry out the ageing in a dry and cool place.

Take a brush that is not the one used for painting, spread the wax on the part you want to antique, wait a few minutes and remove the excess with a cotton or microfibre cloth.

If the effect obtained is not very evident, this is at your discretion, let the wax work a few minutes more or less.

Liquid wax has the exceptional advantage that it can be used if you want to further protect the liquid wax you can spend the day after a coat of clear wax.

The use is very simple:

– The first step is to degrease well the surface you want to paint with hot water, ammonia and bicarbonate, (in a litre of water put 3/4 tablespoons of bicarbonate and a cap of ammonia, if you are allergic to ammonia you just need water and bicarbonate). These are the only products that clean the surface well without leaving traces.

– Once dried the surface can proceed with painting. You open the jar, mix well and proceed with the first coat very stretched, (avoid leaving drips on the edges because at the end of the work would not be aesthetically beautiful). Let the surface dry well before proceeding with the third step (it is understood to be dry when the surface is hot when the hand is placed on it. Drying times depend on the environment in which you are and the season)

– The second coat completely covers the surface, so you will no longer see the colour underneath. If the first coat has already been very opaque, the second coat can be diluted with 10/15% water. Let it dry well.

– Finally, depending on the piece of furniture, it is recommended to protect with wax (bedside tables, drawers, wardrobes, low-wear furniture) or with liquid protection (kitchens, chairs, tables, doors, high-wear furniture).

N.B.: The protection should always be diluted with about 10/15% of water.

How to obtain an antique effect with Magic Paint:

After you have passed the liquid protective coat or the transparent wax, you proceed with the coloured wax.

You can use both liquid and solid wax, the procedure and the final result is the same, only the manual skill with which you apply it changes.

Take a brush other than the one used for painting, spread the wax on the part you want to antique, wait a few minutes and remove the excess with a cotton or microfibre cloth. If the effect obtained is not very evident, this is at your discretion, let the wax work a few minutes more or less.

A little trick, if you have some transparent wax you can use it as an eraser in case the cloth is not enough.
